Van Gogh Sunflowers Homage

Technique: Tryptic – textile sculpture | Approximate dimensions: 55cmx55cmx40cm (high) | 40cmx40cmx40cm (high) | 50cmx50cmx38cm (high) |Materials: wool, acrylic, polyester and polyamide yarns, 100% rock fiber padding, wood boxes
Van Gogh Sunflowers Homage is a textile sculpture formed by 3 sculptures with a wooden base

Inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s iconic Sunflowers, this triptych explores the relationship between colour, texture and the expressive energy of nature. Through a vibrant palette of mustard, ochre, burnt umber and warm orange, Marita Setas Ferro translates the intensity of Van Gogh’s paintings into three-dimensional textile sculptures, where fibre replaces paint and organic forms emerge through repetition.
Each sculpture evokes a sunflower in bloom, its intricate composition recalling both the natural complexity of coral formations and the expressive brushstrokes of Van Gogh. Dense crocheted structures resemble sunflower seed heads, while curling loops, delicate tendrils and textured yarns suggest the movement of petals. Accents of cream, orange and deep aubergine create contrast and depth, bringing rhythm and vitality to each composition.
Where Van Gogh captured the energy of sunflowers through layers of paint, these sculptures extend that expression into volume, shadow and touch. Presented as a triptych, the three forms suggest different stages of bloom, celebrating the individuality of each flower while creating a harmonious collective composition.
Through slow, repetitive gestures, Van Gogh Sunflowers Homage establishes a dialogue between painting, sculpture and nature. Each stitch becomes an expressive mark, transforming the visual language of a timeless artistic reference into a contemporary textile landscape that celebrates creativity, materiality and the beauty of organic forms.
