Coastlines are spaces of transition, where land and sea meet, interact and constantly transform each other. In these environments, life flourishes through an extraordinary diversity of colours, textures and organic forms. From coral reefs and marine organisms to coastal vegetation, nature reveals a delicate balance built on adaptation, coexistence and interdependence.
Between the Land and the Sea translates this meeting of two worlds into a vibrant textile sculpture. Through crochet, knitting and repetitive needlework, Marita Setas Ferro creates an intricate composition of organic shapes in shades of green, orange, yellow and earthy tones, evoking the richness of both terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
Wool and different textile fibres intertwine to create a complex landscape of textures and forms. Supported by an internal structure of upcycled copper and incorporating recycled materials, the sculpture reflects a commitment to circularity, material transformation and environmental awareness.
Each stitch becomes part of a larger structure, echoing the intricate relationships that sustain natural ecosystems. Rather than simply representing nature, Between the Land and the Sea explores its interconnected systems, celebrating biodiversity while reminding us of the fragile balance between the natural worlds that coexist along our coastlines.
