Marita Setas Ferro, sculptor, designer, and founder of the Marita Moreno brand, is among the twenty artists honoured with the Artist of Europe Award 2024. This award, promoted by Pitturi Amo, a platform dedicated to the promotion of contemporary artists, is curated by Brunella Baldi, an Italian artist and artistic director of the Cartavetra Gallery.
The main objective of this award is to provide international visibility to artists and identify talents to join a circle of creatives supported by renowned galleries worldwide. The award is open to painters, sculptors, photographers, graphic designers, digital artists, installation creators, and others working across different media.
Selected artists have the opportunity to establish collaborations with prestigious galleries, such as Galerie Thuillier in Paris, where they can exhibit their works. Furthermore, the winners are included in Pitturi Amo's "Top Selection," an international network of selected artists, which increases their chances of having their works published in esteemed magazines like Panorama.
The winners will have the opportunity to present their works live at the gallery. The exhibition opening is on January 16 in Florence, Italy, where Marita Setas Ferro will be present to showcase her award-winning sculpture. This event offers the public a unique opportunity to experience the diversity and richness of the European contemporary art scene.
Marita Setas Ferro is represented by Double J Collective Gallery, located in Dubai (UAE), a project exclusively dedicated to showcasing Fine Crafts by artists from diverse backgrounds.
“Fading Luminescent Corals” is a textile sculpture inspired by naturally luminescent corals. Featuring orange and coral tones symbolizing living corals, and gray parts representing dead corals found in nature, the sculpture highlights the delicate balance of marine ecosystems. These corals, naturally luminescent, are found at greater depths in the oceans. The work also delivers a powerful warning about human presence and the destruction we bring to the planet and its other inhabitants.
“Things from Nature” is the overarching theme that has connected Marita Setas Ferro’s textile sculptures since 2016. This series offers an artistic representation of natural elements from the sea and land, magnified and reinterpreted through textile techniques. Its purpose is to raise awareness about environmental destruction.
Although crochet and knitting techniques are deeply traditional, their innovative application in Ferro's works creates an initial surprise, confronting tradition with innovation in form, aesthetics, textures, and colour. Through this contrast, her pieces establish a dialogue with those who see, touch, and experience them.
