The 8th International Art Biennial of Espinho starts on June 16 and lasts until August 30, 2025, affirming itself as a platform for the promotion and recognition of contemporary visual arts. Organized by the Municipality of Espinho, through the Municipal Museum, the Biennial is a biennial initiative of reference in the national and international artistic panorama. The exhibitions take place in the Galleries Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso - the valencia museum dedicated to art -, as well as in the galleries of the Parish Council of Espinho and the Multimeios Center, which will host guest artists.
This year, the Biennial has the participation of textile artist Marita Setas Ferro, who presents the sculpture "Luminescent Corals" - a textile piece of great visual and sensory impact, which will be inaugurated on June 16, in celebration of the city day, at 6 pm, at the Municipal Museum of Espinho, integrating the main exhibition of the Biennial.
Created in 2024 and already exhibited at Future Icons Selects / London Craft Week (UK) and at Silvermine Galleries (USA), "Luminescent Corals" is part of the "Things of Nature" collection. The work is inspired by the bioluminescent corals of the ocean depths, evoking their ethereal forms and shimmering shades of purple, blue and green. More than a celebration of nature, the piece is also an alert about human presence and environmental impacts on the planet’s fragile ecosystems.
