The Luminescent Corals made by the Portuguese designer Marita Setas Ferro was selected for the 74th A-ONE in the United States, an exhibition that highlights the diversity of work that has currently been done by established and emerging artists. "The Luminescent Corals is a textile sculpture inspired by natural luminescent corals, with dark shades of purple, blue and green and light spots," explains Marita Setas Ferro in a statement.
The piece belongs to a larger series called 'Things from Nature' - an "artistic representation of natural elements of the sea and land, seen through a magnifying glass and reinterpreted through textile techniques" such as crochet and knitting.
The used yarns are carefully selected in old grocery stores or derived from leftovers of stored collections. The exhibition opened on Saturday, September 7, and will be showcased at the Silvermine Gallery, Connecticut, until October 14
