Portuguese textile artist Marita Setas Ferro presents her new solo exhibition, "Soft Architectures of the Sea," at the Visions Museum of Textile Art (VMOTA) in San Diego, California, further strengthening the international presence of contemporary Portuguese textile art.

On view from June 27 to October 10, 2026, the exhibition features a collection of textile sculptures inspired by marine ecosystems, inviting visitors to reflect on sustainability, ocean conservation, and the intricate relationship between humans and the natural world.

Created using the traditional techniques of crochet and knitting, the artworks reinterpret organic underwater forms through intricate textures, volumes, and sculptural compositions. Many of the pieces incorporate recycled fibers and repurposed materials, reflecting the artist's ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable artistic practices.

Rather than simply representing marine life, Soft Architectures of the Sea offers an immersive sensory experience. Through softness, scale, and tactile surfaces, the exhibition encourages audiences to consider both the beauty and fragility of ocean ecosystems while highlighting the urgent need for their protection.

Known for her multidisciplinary approach that bridges art, design, fashion, and sustainability, Marita Setas Ferro has earned international recognition for transforming traditional textile techniques into innovative contemporary sculpture.

This exhibition marks another significant milestone in the artist's international career and demonstrates how textile art can serve as a powerful medium for raising awareness about environmental, cultural, and social issues.

Setas Ferro proudly celebrates Marita Setas Ferro's latest international achievement and her continued contribution to showcasing Portuguese creativity on the global stage through art that inspires both reflection and positive change.
